Sweet Summer Engagement Session / Pinehurst NC

Some engagement sessions seem to unfold exactly the way they're meant to, and Ryan and Katie's was one of those evenings.

These two first met while living in Charlotte, though their roots are firmly planted in North Carolina. Katie grew up in the charming Village of Pinehurst, while Ryan is originally from Winston-Salem. Their story came full circle when Ryan proposed on February 15th after church on a beautiful covered bridge in Winston-Salem. The proposal had originally been planned for February 1st, but a significant snowstorm forced Ryan to postpone his carefully planned surprise. As it turns out, the extra wait only made the moment even sweeter.

When I met Ryan and Katie last Saturday for their engagement session, the forecast had us all a little nervous. Rain fell through much of the day, but before our session began, the skies cleared and the clouds provided some shade from the hot summer sun. We were gifted one of those rare July evenings in the Sandhills that didn't feel like the middle of summer. The cooler temperatures and soft, overcast light created the perfect setting for a relaxed evening together.

We began our session at the iconic Carolina Hotel, where the timeless architecture and grand Southern charm provided an elegant backdrop for their portraits. From there, we wandered through the Village of Pinehurst, exploring the area where Katie grew up. There is always something special about photographing a couple in a place that already holds so many meaningful memories. Watching Ryan and Katie laugh together while strolling through the Village made it easy to imagine the next chapter they are about to begin.

Their excitement for the future is contagious, and it's easy to see the joy they bring out in one another. They have such a genuine, effortless connection that made every photograph feel natural.  Next year, these two will say "I do" at Pinehurst's Village Chapel and then celebrate the day at the Resort's Members Club, surrounded by their family and friends. If their engagement session is any indication, their wedding day will be filled with just as much joy, laughter, and heartfelt moments.

Ryan and Katie, thank you for trusting me to capture this exciting season of your lives. I absolutely loved spending the evening with you both, and I cannot wait to celebrate alongside you on your wedding day at Pinehurst Resort next year!
