A Small World and a Beautiful Beginning: Ben & Anna's Airlie Gardens Engagement Session
Some engagement sessions feel extra special from the very beginning, and Ben and Anna's session at Airlie Gardens was certainly one of those.
I initially met Anna virtually after she reached out to inquire about her upcoming wedding. During our conversation, she mentioned that one of my former brides, Alexis, had recommended me. As we continued talking, the connections kept unfolding in the most unexpected ways. I soon discovered that Alexis's brother, Josh—one of my all-time favorite grooms and even the ring bearer in my own wedding—happens to be Ben's best friend.
Then came the biggest surprise of all.
It turns out I've known Ben for years. We attended the same church! I know his parents (who are absolutely amazing) and I remember Ben and his sister...and now they are all grown up. The world suddenly felt very small. After finishing my call with Anna, I immediately ran upstairs to tell my husband about all the incredible connections we had just uncovered.
Fast forward one month, and my husband and I were heading to Wilmington for Ben and Anna's engagement session at one of North Carolina's most beautiful locations. From the moment we arrived at Airlie Gardens, I knew it was going to be an incredible afternoon. We arrived a little early to explore the grounds, take in the breathtaking scenery, and scout out the perfect locations for portraits. Although the day was bright and sunny, the gardens offered endless pockets of shade, stunning pathways, towering oak trees, and beautiful blooms that created the perfect backdrop for this sweet couple.
What made the session even more enjoyable was how naturally Ben and Anna interacted with one another. They were relaxed, genuine, and completely comfortable together. Their laughter came easily, and their joy was evident in every moment. Some couples take time to settle into being in front of the camera, but these two were naturals from the start.
As we wandered through the gardens, we talked about life, their relationship, and all the details coming together for their wedding day next May. Hearing them share their excitement for the future only made me more excited to celebrate alongside them when their wedding day arrives.
The afternoon seemed to pass in the blink of an eye. Between the gorgeous scenery, meaningful conversations, and the sweet connection these two share, it was one of those sessions that reminds me exactly why I love what I do.
Ben and Anna, thank you for trusting me to capture this season of your lives. Spending the afternoon with you both was an absolute joy, and I cannot wait to document the next chapter of your story when you say "I do" next spring. If your engagement session is any indication of what's to come, your wedding day is going to be nothing short of incredible.
Here's a look at some of my favorite moments from their beautiful Airlie Gardens engagement session.
