Some love stories begin with a grand romantic gesture. Nick and Lauren’s began in the most unexpected place — at a funeral.

He was directing the service. She was singing.

Both working in service-centered fields, they met while helping a family through one of life’s hardest moments.  Lauren was new to the area at the time, and their connection remained professional — respectful, kind, and consistent — for years.  Six and a half years, to be exact.

Through countless professional interactions, their paths continued to cross. But it wasn’t until much later — in what they both believe was God’s perfect timing — that they finally went on their first date.

And when they did?  Everything changed.

Six and a half years of timing, growth, and patience. They both believe deeply in God’s perfect timing — and when the season was finally right, everything fell into place. For the past two and a half years, they have been madly in love, building a relationship rooted in faith, friendship, laughter, and genuine admiration.

And then came September.

Nick chose the perfect setting to ask Lauren to marry him — outside their favorite Raleigh restaurant, Second Empire Restaurant and Tavern. Lauren’s family had traveled from Maryland to North Carolina to celebrate her birthday, as they often do. What she didn’t know was that Nick had carefully orchestrated a surprise they would both remember forever.

After dinner, as they stepped outside, his two nieces were sitting on the porch. Hidden nearby in the bushes were their families, waiting in anticipation. In one beautiful moment, Nick got down on one knee — and his nieces brought him the ring.

Lauren was completely stunned.

“Are you serious?” she asked, more than once, before the reality settled in. And of course, she said yes.

From meeting in a place of quiet service to a joyful proposal surrounded by family, their story feels divinely written from beginning to end. It’s a testament to patience, faith, and the kind of love that grows steadily before it blooms spectacularly.

Now, with their wedding day just around the corner in April, they’re stepping into this next chapter the same way their story began — with intention, heart, and deep gratitude for the journey that brought them here. ✨
